Forglemmegei, Color Viscosity, 20x30, 2020
The etched zinc plate
Concept
Color viscosity is a method utilized in intaglio printing, involving the use of a sculptural plate featuring profound grooves. This meticulous technique necessitates the immersion of a zinc plate in an acid bath for an extended duration. The artist perceives a parallel between this gradual corrosive action on metal and the impact of dementia on the development of the human brain. In this analogy, the acidic erosion gradually consumes the metal, analogous to how dementia progressively erodes memories within the brain. The motif draws inspiration from a PET scan of a brain with low activity.
The artwork is named Forglemmegei, after a Norwegian flower, and the name translates to "Don't forget me."
